Why subscribe?

I aim to write at least one article each week on the current political situation. There will also be monthly articles on topics such as the constitution, US Politics and significant historical figures.

There will be at least one post each month available to all subscribers. However, to have access to all posts you would need to upgrade to a paid subscription. In addition to full access to all posts and my publication archives, paid subscribers also gain the ability to comment on posts and there will also be occasional chat sessions where we can discuss the relevant issues of the day.

There is also the opportunity for a limited number of people to become founder members. In addition to the benefits of being a paid subscriber, there will be specific chat sessions just for founder members and also the opportunity to attend an annual offline gathering in London or Somerset with me and other founder members.

Why £8.78?

In AD878, Alfred the Great defeated Guthrum at the Battle of Edington. It is the most important, if sadly forgotten, date in English history. If Guthrum had won, Wessex would have fallen and England, as we know it, would never have existed. As Alfred won, Wessex triumphed, united the country and, from that, our constitution, as well as that of the United States, was developed. It is also often forgotten that the Magna Carta was a confirmation of rights, not the creation of them. Hence, the monthly price of this Substack is 878 pence, a currency with which Alfred would have been familiar, to help remember this important date, which is fundamental to all English-speaking people.
